Moral injury is a very human response to systemic problems. It has also been described as a "soul wound" by Shay, an American Psychiatrist.

Moral Injury is more substantive than burnout and involves feelings of shame and guilt, and a sense of hopelessness with the systemic injustices and problems. It arises from a betrayal of one’s core values, such as justice, fairness, and loyalty, and from a moral transgression (either committed by self or observed in others). It is made worse by the social isolation from peers or feeling let down by those in authority.
